Message I used to live off of Huntington Ave. (up the street from the new Northeastern dorms). The area could have been better, and I'm still amazed my car lived there for over a year unscathed. The apt.'s had private lots with video surveillance so that helped.

I got an Evolution 4 cover from autoanything.com. The fabric is pretty good. The cover fit isn't bad, but the front doesn't come under the nose of the car as much as it should, so in a heavy wind it'll sometimes fly off. The cable keeps the rest of the cover on. It's very easy to get on and off; only takes a minute or less.

It comes with a bag, but I usually roll the cover from the front to the back of the car, and then just stick it in the trunk as is. Sometimes I stuff it in loose around loads to keep them from shifting.

The cable isn't super tight, but you don't really want it to be. You need to toss the cable under the car to the other side to lock it. If it was too tight it'd snap back on you. Then you'd have to get on your knees to reach under to grab it, or try again. Not fun in a freezing rain storm with 4 inches slush covering the ground!

And speaking of freezing rain, I have definitely had the cover freeze to the car before. In that case your pretty much stuck, unless you have a nearby and significant source of luke warm water (which on the streets of Boston I seriously doubt you will). Same thing if there's snow on it, it warms up during the day melting some of it, and then it re-freezes at night. If you know you're going to need the car, and such conditions are possible, just leave the cover off. If you keep it good and waxed it'll be fine left out every now and then.

Oh, and you'll want to get a better lock than the one that comes with the cover. Make sure to get one that is good and weather resistant.

Good Luck!

Ian
